For Prospective Authors

New Classics Study Guides is a group of Christian authors who produce a vetted collection of high quality books friendly to Christian homeschoolers. If you are an author with a book you’d like us to consider, please make sure the book meets the following criteria:

  • The novel is written by a Bible-believing Christian.
  • The novel is geared for a middle-grade (not YA) audience.
  • The novel has a strong plot and memorable characters, i.e. a “new classic.”
  • The author preferably has some kind of an email newsletter.

If you are on board with the criteria listed above, then we would ask you to:

  1. Offer free on our website a homeschool-friendly, four- to six-week study guide to accompany your novel. It should be aimed for a third- to seventh-grade audience. We can coach you on writing a study guide. While offered free on the New Classics site, you are free to sell it elsewhere, or do whatever you want with it. Study Guide example >
  2. Take at least one spot per year on our New Classics monthly newsletter calendar to share an article, a freebie, or anything of interest to homeschooling parents. You can share your new releases and short stories. The newsletter has around 600 active readers from the homeschool world, and growing. This is a great opportunity to market yourself and your books! 3. Donate a book for our big “Back to School Book Bonanza” giveaway one time a year (August) and share the giveaway with your own subscribers. The idea is that we authors promote each other in our email newsletters once a year, broadening our own audiences.
  4. Participate in an “Author Visit” interview, a set of three short Zoom interviews, for posting on our website. Interview examples >
  5. Keep our New Classics group of authors in mind when outside promo opportunities come up, and let the group know about them.
  6. Keep in mind that this is a group of authors helping each other and reaching out to homeschooling families. New Classics is not a business making money off any of our activities. (In fact, our minimal business costs are supported by a couple of our members.)

If all this looks intriguing and you would like to join us, please make your book available to Phyllis Wheeler at phylliswheeler@phylliswheeler.com
